As Albert Einstein once said, \u201cthe greatest scientists are artists as well.\u201d Even a century ago, Einstein knew that the creativity that comes from being an artist or musician is critical to succeeding in science and technology. In today\u2019s education system, however, art and STEM fields couldn\u2019t be further apart. Nearly every parent and educator recognize the immense benefits of starting Educaci\u00f3n STEM<\/a> at an early age, from developing a child\u2019s cognitive skills to preparing them for the careers of the future. However, not many parents realize that the creativity that comes from art and music education is equally important for children to thrive and succeed in our future economy. According to a group of Harvard Medical School researchers, learning a musical instrument in childhood is associated with increased IQ, creativity, verbal ability, and nonverbal reasoning. When these benefits of art education are combined with STEM education during early childhood, children\u2019s potential for success increases dramatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A recent White House report found that employment opportunities in STEM fields are projected to grow about 7 times faster than all other fields. However, only 20% of high school grads are prepared for pursuing STEM fields in college. Although K-12 schools are rapidly expanding STEM education opportunities for students, it is clear that traditional education alone isn\u2019t preparing children for the future. In addition to the lack of STEM preparation<\/a> students receive, the vast majority of available careers when our children enter the workforce do not exist today. In order for children to succeed in our future economy, they not only need the critical thinking, analytical skills, and knowledge from rigorous STEM education, but also need the creativity, innovative mindset, and ability to collaborate that come from learning music and art. To solve the problems of our future, students will need to apply complex scientific and technological concepts in creative and innovative ways. Traditional STEM education must be expanded and integrated with arts education to prepare students for the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los educadores innovadores se est\u00e1n dando cuenta de las necesidades \u00fanicas de los estudiantes de hoy y han creado un nuevo modelo educativo llamado STE (A) M (mediante la integraci\u00f3n de las artes en la educaci\u00f3n STEM). Investigaciones anteriores han demostrado que las escuelas que agregaron solo 9 horas de educaci\u00f3n STE (A) M observaron una mejora significativa en el rendimiento cient\u00edfico de los estudiantes. En lugar de memorizar hechos para aprobar un examen, los estudiantes aprendieron a aplicar conceptos de manera creativa. A trav\u00e9s de la b\u00fasqueda del arte y la m\u00fasica, los estudiantes se volvieron significativamente m\u00e1s curiosos y creativos, lo cual es fundamental para el \u00e9xito como programador, cient\u00edfico, ingeniero o las carreras STEM del futuro. Al tocar m\u00fasica con amigos, los estudiantes tambi\u00e9n aprendieron a ser m\u00e1s colaborativos, lo que mejor\u00f3 en gran medida su desempe\u00f1o en las materias STEM en la escuela y m\u00e1s all\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aunque los sistemas escolares se est\u00e1n dando cuenta lentamente de la importancia de integrar el arte y la educaci\u00f3n STEM, puede pasar un tiempo antes de que este enfoque integrado sea la nueva norma. Afortunadamente, los padres no tienen que esperar. En los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os han surgido muchos recursos para brindarles a los padres la oportunidad de complementar la educaci\u00f3n STEM y art\u00edstica de sus hijos para prepararlos mejor para el \u00e9xito en el futuro. Plataformas como CodeMonkey y Kahn Academy ayudan a los ni\u00f1os a aprender codificaci\u00f3n<\/a> habilidades y conceptos cient\u00edficos. Programas de m\u00fasica y arte, como Virtu.Academy<\/a> y Outschool permiten que los ni\u00f1os aprendan un instrumento o exploren otras actividades art\u00edsticas. Estos recursos hacen que la educaci\u00f3n STEM y musical de clase mundial sea accesible para los estudiantes de todo el mundo, para que puedan estar mejor preparados para nuestro mundo en constante cambio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
